Chapter 24 The God of the Future
Chapter 24 The God of the Future
The massive explosion destroyed the armory, but it also stirred up a hornet's nest.
The entire Amegakure village was in an uproar. The sirens blared pierced the rainy night, and countless Amegakure ninjas, carrying torches, blocked all the main roads, making escape extremely difficult.
"We can't go this way either."
At a dark and damp sewer junction, Fugaku Uchiha withdrew his probing gaze, his face grim.
"The front is full of patrols with summoned beasts. That madman Hanzo actually brought back all the troops from the outer defense line."
"After all, we bombed his vital organ."
Nishikawa Tetsu leaned against the moss-covered wall and glanced at the map in his hand.
After the intense exercise and mental strain, all three of them were exhausted.
"Given this level of blockade, it's impossible to leave the village directly," Nishikawa Tetsu calmly analyzed. "The most dangerous place is the safest place. The upper district and the exit are definitely heavily guarded now. On the contrary, the lower slum we just passed through is the most difficult to search because of its complex terrain and dense population."
"Going back to that place again?" Fugaku Uchiha frowned, clearly still vivid in his memory of the stench and filth there.
"If we don't go back there, we'll just be playing hide-and-seek with Hanzo in the sewers." Minato Namikaze gave a wry smile.
"Fugaku-senpai, listen to Tetsu's advice."
In a dark corner of the sewer, Nishikawa Tetsu held a clump of foul-smelling sludge in his hand and looked at Uchiha Fugaku.
"Fugaku-senpai, you're still a little short." Nishikawa Tetsu pointed to Fugaku's face, which was worn but still clean. "Here, and his neck, are too pale. You can tell he's an overnourished ninja."
Fugaku leaned stiffly against the wall, his brows furrowed in a deep frown, staring at the clump of mud. He instinctively leaned back, saying, "...Do I really have to smear it on my face? I've already put up with the mud on my clothes."
"We have to wipe it off, Hanzo's nose is very sensitive." Before Nishikawa Tetsu could even start, Namikaze Minato had already grinned and stuck his hand into the mud puddle.
"Senior, if you can't bring yourself to do it, I'll help you!" Minato's face was covered in black ash, revealing only his white teeth, making him look both comical and sincere.
"Don't touch me!" Fugaku slapped Minato's hand away in disgust, took a deep breath, as if making some kind of life-or-death decision.
He closed his eyes, his expression of heroic sacrifice even more solemn than when facing a thousand troops.
"I'll do it myself."
Fugaku grabbed a handful of mud and smeared it hard on his proud face, even rubbing his hair into a bird's nest to make it look more realistic.
After doing all this, he opened his eyes and found that Minato and Che were both trying not to laugh.
"Laugh if you want," Fugaku said irritably, his face covered in graffiti. "But I've put this on the 'yakiniku bill.' You two won't be leaving the yakiniku restaurant until you're stuffed."
"Yes, Captain." Minato saluted, suppressing a laugh.
Half an hour later.
They evaded several searches and crawled into a half-collapsed abandoned temple.
Located on the edge of a slum, the ruins are hidden by huge banana leaves, making it a natural refuge.
"We're safe for now."
Fugaku Uchiha breathed a sigh of relief and was just about to find a place to sit down and recover his chakra.
"Who?!"
He turned his head sharply, the kunai in his hand instantly unsheathed, and his Sharingan eyes locked onto the area behind a broken stone statue in the corner of the temple.
"Come out! Or die!"
A murderous aura instantly filled the entire temple.
Minato Namikaze and Tetsuya Nishikawa quickly entered battle mode, as any accident could expose their whereabouts at this time.
"No...don't kill us!"
A childish yet somewhat stubborn voice came from behind the stone statue.
Immediately afterwards, three thin figures walked out shakily.
There were three children.
Leading the way was a boy with orange hair. Although he was as thin as a monkey, he gripped a rusty dagger tightly in his hand and stood fiercely in front of the other two.
Behind him was a little girl with light blue hair, clutching the boy's clothes in fear.
Standing at the very back was a silent boy with bright red hair and bangs that covered his eyes.
"Kid?"
Fugaku Uchiha was stunned for a moment, but the murderous intent in his eyes did not dissipate; instead, he became even more vigilant.
"An orphan from Amegakure? Why is he here?"
"This is our home!" the orange-haired boy shouted through gritted teeth, his legs trembling, but he refused to budge an inch.
"Get out! This is the place we found first!"
"Huh? Your house?" Fugaku sneered, about to take a step forward to scare them away.
"Wait, senior."
Nishikawa Tetsu, who had been silent all along, suddenly reached out and stopped Fugaku.
His gaze swept past the orange-haired boy, over the blue-haired girl, and finally fixed firmly on the red-haired boy.
Especially that iconic red hair of the Whirlpool Clan.
Yahiko, Konan, Nagato.
Nishikawa Tetsu's heart skipped a beat.
He never expected that at this point in time, while on the run, he would encounter these three people who would change the future of the ninja world.
And hidden beneath that red-haired boy's long bangs is the legendary Rinnegan, the eye of the Sage of Six Paths.
"They're just three homeless orphans, senior," Nishikawa Tetsu said in a low, calm voice.
"Killing them or driving them away will only attract the patrol. It's better to let them stay here; they can keep an eye on things outside for us."
"Che is right." Minato Namikaze looked at the three emaciated, soaking wet children who were about his age, and his suppressed sympathy resurfaced.
He crouched down, put away his kunai, and gave a smile that was as gentle as possible:
"Don't be afraid, we're not here to take over territory. We just need to take shelter from the rain here."
"Liar! Who would believe the nonsense about the Great Ninja Kingdom!" Yahiko still held up his dagger, like a cat with its fur standing on end.
"You just blew up that big house, right? I saw it! You're bad guys!"
"We're definitely not good people."
Nishikawa Tetsu stepped forward and took out three pieces of compressed dry food and a bottle of water from his backpack.
He ignored the dagger in Yahiko's hand and placed the food directly on the stone slab in front of the three children.
"But this thing is real."
The aroma of food instantly filled the noses of the three hungry children.
Gurgle.
I don't know whose stomach rumbled.
Yahiko swallowed hard, the fierce look in his eyes instantly crumbling in the face of the food.
But he still glanced warily at Nishikawa Tetsuya and didn't move.
"Not poisonous."
Nishikawa Tetsu broke off a small piece, put it in his mouth and ate it, then shrugged.
"You are no longer of any value to me that I would poison."
Although those words were unpleasant, they made Yahiko lower his guard.
"eat!"
Yahiko grabbed the dry rations and first shared them with Konan and Nagato behind him, before wolfing them down himself.
Watching the three emaciated children devour their food like hungry wolves, Minato Namikaze sighed, his eyes filled with pity.
Fugaku Uchiha leaned against the doorway, watching coldly: "Giving them food is a waste. They won't survive the winter in this country."
"That's not necessarily true."
Nishikawa Tetsu said something meaningful.
He walked up to the red-haired boy—Nagato.
Nagato ate very slowly, keeping his head down the whole time, his red hair covering most of his face like a curtain.
"Your hair is beautiful."
Nishikawa Tetsu suddenly spoke.
Nagato's body stiffened abruptly, and he stopped eating.
From childhood to adulthood, his red hair brought him only ridicule and bullying.
He slowly raised his head, and through the gaps in his hair, his pale purple eyes with circular patterns flashed by in the shadows.
Although it was only for a moment, Nishikawa Tetsu saw it clearly.
It really is the Rinnegan. Madara, that old bastard, is quick to strike.
Nishikawa Tetsu was deeply shocked, but he remained outwardly calm.
He took out a candy from his ninja tool pouch—he had bought it in Konoha, intending to use it to replenish his sugar levels.
"Give."
Nishikawa Tetsu handed the candy to Nagato.
Nagato hesitated for a moment, then reached out her dirty little hand and took the candy.
"Thank you..." His voice was barely audible.
"You're welcome." Nishikawa Tetsu looked at the boy with the Eye of God, then suddenly lowered his voice, speaking in a volume only the two of them could hear: "Protect your eyes, and protect your companions. In this cruel world, this is your only means of survival."
Nagato suddenly looked up, staring at Nishikawa Tetsu with a puzzled expression.
He didn't understand why this strange child would say such things, but he could sense that the other person seemed very serious.
"Alright, break is over."
Half an hour later, the sounds of the search outside gradually faded away.
Fugaku Uchiha stood up: "It's time to go. Under the cover of night, we must move to a more outlying area."
The three packed their gear and prepared to leave.
Just before they were leaving, Yahiko suddenly called out to them.
"Hey! Konoha ninja!"
Yahiko wiped the crumbs from the corner of his mouth, his eyes gleaming with a light that seemed to radiate ambition.
"One day, I will change this weeping country! I will make the Land of Rain stop raining! Then, I won't have to steal your bread anymore!"
Fugaku Uchiha scoffed dismissively, "Dream on."
Minato Namikaze turned around and smiled, "Good luck, I'm waiting for that day."
Nishikawa Tetsu only glanced at the three children.
"Changing a country isn't about shouting slogans, nor is it about using a rusty dagger."
Nishikawa Tetsu pointed to his head: "If you want to change the world, first survive, then read more books."
After saying that, the three disappeared into the rain.
Inside the temple, Yahiko clenched his fists, staring in the direction the three had left, remaining silent for a long time.
Nagato clutched the candy tightly, and for the first time, a strange light appeared in his purple eyes.
In the rain.
"Che, why did you say those things to those kids just now?" Minato asked as he ran.
"It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing," Nishikawa Tetsu replied.
"Warning! Strong chakra reaction ahead!"
Fugaku Uchiha's voice suddenly interrupted Toru Nishikawa's thoughts.
"It looks like Hanzo's personal guard!"
