Chapter 59 Suppression
Chapter 59 Suppression
Zhao Chen's camp was temporarily back on track, but he knew it was only temporary.
The most crucial thing now is that Hua Ye has withdrawn the troops stationed at the border, and the void creatures are no longer an obstacle, so they have begun to descend on a large scale.
Zhao Chen couldn't just sit and wait for them to form a beast tide. He had to learn to take the initiative.
Zhao Chen summoned Goron and the captains of each major group to the stone house and unfolded a hand-drawn star map. He had collected it from the planet's native inhabitants, and it marked the approximate locations of several nearby planets.
The planet Zhao Chen is on is called Gera. There are more than a dozen gathering points for void creatures around it. "Zhao Chen pointed to the markings on the star map, "I'll go and clear them out. You guys stay at the camp and are responsible for repairing the fortifications and getting the mines and forges up and running."
Goron frowned upon hearing this: "Chief, you're going alone?"
"Going alone is enough."
"You'll only be sending yourselves to your deaths if you go," Zhao Chen said.
Goron opened his mouth, as if he wanted to say something more, but in the end, he didn't say anything. He knew that what the chief had said was true.
Last time, he went with Zhao Chen to clear out the void creature points. He led six hundred of the tribe's bravest warriors, but before he even got close, some of the new recruits were paralyzed by the void creatures' oppressive aura.
In the end, the leader charged in alone and killed all the monsters, giving them no chance to even make a move.
"Keep the camp under control." Zhao Chen stood up. "I'll probably be back in three days."
No sooner had he finished speaking than the golden crow's escape light streaked across the sky, and Zhao Chen flew towards the first gathering point.
This is an abandoned mining town. Since the arrival of the void creatures, some of the townspeople fled, and the rest all perished.
Zhao Chen landed in the center of the town and used his Fiery Eyes to scan the surroundings. More than a dozen Foundation Establishment stage Void Centipedes were hiding in abandoned houses, and a Golden Core stage Void Scorpion was lying under the water tower.
Pure Yang True Fire surged from Zhao Chen's body, golden flames spreading outwards from him. All void creatures within a hundred miles were locked onto by Zhao Chen's divine sense, and not a single one could escape.
His Devouring Talent was operating at full power. With each Void Creature he killed, its essence was extracted and transformed into pure energy that flowed into Zhao Chen's body. Simultaneously, his Spatial Talent was also seized.
Zhao Chen doesn't need to cultivate spatial power. He only needs to devour.
Once you've eaten your fill, you'll naturally have more.
Forced out of the ruins, the Void Centipedes scurried across the ground with a screeching sound. Zhao Chen didn't move; he simply raised his hand and unleashed a fiery spear, piercing one through. His Devouring Talent activated, instantly draining his life essence. The second, third, and fourth centipedes were all pierced, devoured, and reduced to ashes by the fiery spears as they approached within ten feet of him.
The Void Scorpion attempted to launch a sneak attack from underground. Little did it know that Zhao Chen's divine sense had already locked onto it. With a single step, Pure Yang True Fire spread down the ground, completely incinerating it underground.
In about fifteen minutes, Zhao Chen wiped out all the void creatures in the entire town.
The golden crow's escape light shone brightly, and it flew towards its next location.
Three days later, Zhao Chen returned to the North Mountain camp.
All thirteen gathering points on Planet Gela have been cleared out. Zhao Chen alone killed his way through three whole days.
Goron and his men were waiting at the camp entrance early in the morning. He only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Zhao Chen descend from the sky.
"Chief, are you alright?"
"It's alright." Zhao Chen walked into the camp. "How's the mine?"
"The mines are producing decent quantities, but our blacksmiths are too rough; the stuff they make isn't very good." Goron scratched his head. "If only we could find those dwarves; their forging skills are unparalleled."
Zhao Chen didn't say anything, but silently made a mental note of it.
Zhao Chen nodded: "What about the grain?"
"Did the new tribes bring any stored food? Enough to feed us for half a year. I also cleared some land at the foot of the mountain and planted some fast-growing crops."
Zhao Chen glanced at Goron. This orc was even more capable than he had imagined. He had managed to keep the camp in perfect order while Zhao Chen was away.
"Keep up the good work," Zhao Chen said. "I'm going to cultivate now."
---
Three months later, a dilapidated transport ship landed near the North Mountain camp. Instead of orcs, a group of dwarves disembarked. Leading them was an old dwarf with white hair; notably, their beards were braided, and they carried forging hammers.
"You're the leader that's been making headlines lately?" The old dwarf looked Zhao Chen up and down.
"If there were no other people with the same name, it should be me."
"My name is Anvil, an elder of the Ironhammer tribe," the old dwarf said. "Our mines have been taken over by void creatures, and nearly half of our people have died. The rest of us have survived for three months by hiding underground. We've heard that you can kill void creatures. If you can help us reclaim our mines, we'll follow you."
Zhao Chen looked at the old dwarf, then at the ragged dwarfs on the transport ship.
Where is your mine located?
"On the neighboring planet, Rock Star."
Zhao Chen nodded: "Lead the way."
The mine on Planet Locke was much larger than Zhao Chen had anticipated. It was a meteorite iron mine with astonishing reserves. Void creatures had occupied the depths of the mine, using it as their lair.
Zhao Chen led Gronn and twenty orc warriors down into the mine and fought his way in. The mine was too narrow to deploy a formation, but Zhao Chen didn't need to.
The pure Yang True Fire burned into a golden fire dragon in the narrow mine tunnel, and the void creatures howled, disintegrated, and turned to ashes in the golden flames. Zhao Chen walked in front, using his Devouring Talent to steal the essence of each void creature.
Fifteen minutes later, the Void Scorpion at the deepest part of the mine collapsed at Zhao Chen's feet.
At this moment, the anvil led the dwarf into the mine, where he saw corpses scattered all over the ground. The old dwarf's beard twitched.
We dwarves have always kept our word. From this day forward, "The Ironhammer Tribe, with its three hundred and twelve dwarves, is at your command."
Zhao Chen nodded: "Then let's build the mine first and extract the meteorite ore. I need a lot of good steel."
"Good steel?" the anvil snorted. "Give us good ore, and we'll forge the best steel for you."
---
After the mines on Rock Star resumed production, the camp on Gela Star also entered a phase of rapid development.
Countless meteorite iron ores were continuously transported from the planet Locke, and Iron Anvil led the dwarven blacksmiths to build a new forging workshop next to the camp. The forging skills of these dwarves were far superior to those of the orcs, and the equipment they forged had sharp blades and sturdy armor.
But Zhao Chen also knew that these things would be useless against the void creatures. He ordered the forging of these weapons and armor not to attack the void creatures, but to give these orcs the ability to defend themselves.
In case a few Void creatures invade while he's away that day, they can at least hold out until he returns.
The real battle, however, still rests on his own.
The camp's population also grew from 100,000 to over 150,000. The new members brought new skills to the tribe—some could build houses, some could dig irrigation ditches, and some could tame mounts.
Zhao Chen handed these people over to Goron and arranged them in suitable positions. Zhao Chen's camp gradually transformed from a military outpost into a real settlement.
Gronn's army also expanded accordingly. From 20,000 warriors, it grew to 30,000. Gronn divided them into thirty battalions, each with 1,000 men. He also distributed the new equipment forged by the dwarves, giving each man a dark bronze armor and a meteorite iron spear.
Gronn stood on the high platform of the training ground, watching the 30,000 orc warriors below arrayed and training. The sharp tips of their spears gleamed coldly in the sunlight, and he couldn't help but grin for a long time.
"Chief, with our current strength, we're not afraid even if the void creatures come again!"
Zhao Chen stood on the high platform above, looking at the neat square formation below, without saying a word.
