Chapter 89 Wind Direction
Chapter 89 Wind Direction
Yuan Zhenhui was about thirty years old, not very tall, and rather stocky. He was considered one of the more senior technicians in He Feng's group.
Judging from his words, it seemed that he had some issues with He Feng or was dissatisfied with the company, so he didn't plan to quit.
Wei Hongsi, unaware of the details, naturally refrained from commenting. He also had no intention of investigating, given their unfamiliarity with each other, and simply nodded and said "Oh."
Yuan Zhenhui, however, seemed eager to confide in someone. As the two walked towards the elevator, he said, "We're working overtime every day, but our performance bonuses aren't increasing, and we don't get time off in lieu. I really don't know what we're busy with all day! Do you think this job is meaningful?"
Wei Hongsi fell silent. He had never worked overtime with the team members, so how would he know the specifics of the situation?
Under normal circumstances, the second department is assessed based on the overall workload. Different types of work have different standards, but overtime and time off in lieu are arranged independently by the supervisor or project manager.
Yuan Zhenhui's words were filled with resentment, and his use of "we" mostly represented only himself or a small group of people. If everyone in the group thought the same way, then He Feng, as the supervisor, might as well quit.
Whether Yuan Zhenhui's low work efficiency forced him to work overtime to catch up on the schedule, or whether He Feng was intentionally targeting him, remains unknown.
Wei Hongsi naturally had opinions about He Feng, but that doesn't mean that everything He Feng did was problematic.
The two entered the elevator, and Yuan Zhenhui muttered a few more words. When they reached the 10th floor, someone else entered the elevator, and he stopped talking.
After leaving the main building lobby, Wei Hongsi turned towards the restaurant in the adjacent annex building, and Yuan Zhenhui followed him there.
Perhaps he had already said everything he wanted to say, or perhaps he hadn't received any emotional feedback from Wei Hongsi, because Yuan Zhenhui didn't speak again until they entered the restaurant.
Wei Hongsi got his food and found a place to sit down. Not long after, Yuan Zhenhui came over with his tray and sat down opposite him.
The two ate in silence for a while, then Yuan Zhenhui suddenly said, "Xiao Wei, I'm planning to leave Zhiwei and go it alone. What do you think?"
Wei Hongsi swallowed the food in his mouth and said sincerely, "Starting your own business is not an easy thing. It's best to consider all aspects before making a decision."
Yuan Zhenhui held his chopsticks, and after a long while, he slowly nodded: "You're right, I do need to think about it carefully."
Wei Hongsi asked, half out of curiosity and half out of suggestion, "Have you ever thought about switching groups?"
"I'm not familiar with the other supervisors, and switching teams might not necessarily make things better." Yuan Zhenhui shook his head. "Besides, I'm really tired of doing the same thing every day, and I really want to try a different environment. Actually, I see the people in the application center running around all the time, and I'm quite envious of them. But I know I don't have that kind of external communication ability, so it's just wishful thinking."
Wei Hongsi understood somewhat; Yuan Zhenhui must have experienced a career plateau effect.
For him, the work had become a monotonous repetitive task, like muscle memory. His sense of autonomy was squeezed by the rigid processes, and he lost his sense of belonging to the team. As a result, he became bored with his current job and even had the idea of changing careers.
This phenomenon isn't limited to the workplace. A plateau effect also exists among students, especially at the secondary school and doctoral levels.
But to be honest, in this situation, you should actually stick to it. If you rashly give up or change tracks, you will regret it most of the time.
Like Yuan Zhenhui, who admitted he wasn't good at communicating with others and still wanted to go it alone, which was really wishful thinking. But I guess it was just a momentary impulse, and he'll probably regain his senses once the initial excitement wears off.
Wei Hongsi felt that he could get to know Yuan Zhenhui better, and if it was suitable, he could bring him into the project team that was about to be established.
There must be quite a few people in the company in Yuan Zhenhui's situation. Perhaps they could organize an internal recruitment drive, like putting up posters at a school to recruit people to join the work.
"Zhenhui! Get to work tonight!"
A voice sounded from behind Wei Hongsi, sounding like it was from at least three or four tables away. It was clearly He Feng, their group leader.
Yuan Zhenhui looked up at He Feng and said, "I have something to do tonight, didn't I tell you?"
"What do you want?" He Feng asked as he walked over. When he got closer, he noticed that Wei Hongsi was sitting opposite Yuan Zhenhui, and he was taken aback.
"Anyway, I have something to do." Yuan Zhenhui repeated in a muffled voice.
Wei Hongsi turned and greeted He Feng. He Feng smiled and nodded at him, then said to Yuan Zhenhui, "You have to finish your work first, aren't you going to earn money for your son's milk powder?"
Yuan Zhenhui's lips moved twice, but he didn't speak.
He Feng ignored him, smiled and nodded at Wei Hongsi, and walked out of the restaurant.
Yuan Zhenhui ate a few mouthfuls of rice, took out his phone to send a message, and then put it on the table. A short while later, his phone rang, and he picked it up to answer it.
Wei Hongsi vaguely heard a woman's voice on the other end of the phone. Yuan Zhenhui was explaining that he had to work overtime that night and could not participate in the event. The other party seemed to be very sorry about this.
"I was supposed to attend a sharing session tonight." Yuan Zhenhui put down the phone and laughed self-deprecatingly. "I was hoping to improve my social skills this way, but it seems it won't do me any good."
"A sharing session? Is it like a mutual aid group?" Wei Hongsi couldn't help but wonder. It seemed that Yuan Zhenhui had indeed seriously considered going solo, but he probably gave up halfway through.
"Pretty much," Yuan Zhenhui nodded. "The participants were similar to me, mostly people who aren't very good at socializing. But the host was very capable, able to guide everyone to chat freely about various topics."
"You must be quite popular. Actually, if it's effective, you can participate a few more times."
Wei Hongsi felt that if Yuan Zhenhui wanted to try different job content, his project team could provide several options, including external liaison work.
"It's not so much that I'm popular, but I was originally scheduled to give the keynote speech tonight," Yuan Zhenhui said with a soft sigh. "If I don't go, they'll have to readjust things."
"You can share it with them next time. Hmm, your membership should be relatively stable, right?"
Wei Hongsi understood Yuan Zhenhui's feelings. He must have prepared a lot for tonight, after all, it was a completely different environment from work, and he would be meeting different people. For someone whose life was relatively fixed, it was a good way to relax.
Yuan Zhenhui smiled and said, "I've participated four times, and it's basically the same people, except for one round-faced girl who missed two times."
