Chapter 29 Seeking the Horse
Chapter 29 Seeking the Horse
He Feng took the elevator to the 16th floor and encountered Yu Sheng when he entered the office area.
Seeing that Director Yu looked exhausted, he guessed he wasn't in a good mood, so after greeting him, he added, "Director Yu, I saw Wei Hongsi and Lu Jiaqi, the supervisor of Department Eight, go out together."
"Huh?" Yu Sheng was taken aback. He thought to himself, "Didn't I tell him to rest this morning?"
"Wei Hongsi is the new graduate who joined our group." He Feng thought Yu Sheng didn't remember who Wei Hongsi was, so he quickly added.
This is quite normal. There are nearly 300 people in the second department, and it's impossible for the leaders to remember everyone, especially a newcomer.
Yu Sheng nodded: "I understand."
He Feng added, "Our team has been quite busy lately, and his absence will affect our work schedule."
"I've assigned him other work, so don't give him any tasks for the time being. Your team can function properly even if you're just one person short, right? Think of a way to reorganize the work." Yu Sheng said, glancing at the coffee in He Feng's hand.
"Okay, okay," He Feng nodded awkwardly.
Seeing beads of sweat on He Feng's thinning hair, Yu Sheng sighed inwardly, smiled, and patted him on the shoulder: "Keep up the good work."
He Feng watched Yu Sheng leave, wiped the sweat from his brow, and thought to himself, "How come Wei Hongsi has become so familiar with President Yu again?"
Yu Sheng returned to his office, turned on the WD system on his computer, and first dealt with the day's administrative tasks.
Upon seeing Wei Hongsi's request for time off in lieu, I thought for a moment and changed it to field work.
……
……
Lu Jiaqi didn't sleep well last night.
She had never encountered anything this big since she started working, especially since it was something she initiated.
Although she wasn't responsible for the whole thing, and even if things got out of control, her superiors would take the blame, the thought of two lives lost still sent chills down her spine.
However, she also saw the long-awaited promotion opportunity in it.
So far, her handling of the situation has been impeccable, earning praise from company leaders and clients. If she continues to perform well and the final outcome satisfies all parties, she will have a significant reason for a promotion.
Two thoughts swirled in her mind and were reflected in her body.
In the end, she herself couldn't tell whether she was trembling with fear or with excitement.
When Lu Jiaqi arrived at the company in the morning, she first called Ji Cheng and learned that preparations were underway and progressing smoothly, which relieved her worries.
She then quickly finished her other tasks for the day. After arranging everything, she went to Miao Rui's office to report on her assignment to provide support at the filming location and to see if her superiors had any other arrangements.
It was at this moment that she received a message from Wei Hongsi, and after a moment's consideration, she told Miao Rui about the situation.
This matter isn't a big deal, but it involves a major current event, so she felt it wasn't appropriate to act on her own and to report it to her superiors first.
Miao Rui said without much thought, "Then you and Engineer Wei can go together." After a pause, he added, "If he has any requests, try your best to cooperate. If you encounter any difficulties, call me."
Lu Jiaqi was somewhat taken aback. Judging from President Miao's tone, he probably didn't know that Wei Hongsi was going to the filming location, yet he still wanted her to cooperate with him. The implication was rather intriguing.
But she didn't show it on her face. Seeing that Miao Rui had no further instructions, she took her leave.
After coming out, he first replied to Wei Hongsi's message, then went to his office to retrieve his handbag, and then took the elevator to the underground parking lot.
Once inside the car, she didn't rush off. She waited until the agreed-upon fifteen minutes were almost up before driving up to Wei Hongsi.
Wei Hongsi saw a white car parked in front of him, leaned down to look inside, then opened the car door and got in.
"Good morning, Manager Lu!" Wei Hongsi greeted him while fastening his seatbelt.
"Good morning!" Lu Jiaqi smiled and nodded.
Wei Hongsi couldn't help but wonder if this was a difference between a technical manager and a marketing manager, or a difference in the thinking patterns of men and women, or a difference in how older and younger people perceive time.
It couldn't possibly be that someone dislikes me, could it? Impossible, absolutely impossible!
Lu Jiaqi drove the car into the traffic lane and turned to look in the right rearview mirror. Seeing Wei Hongsi's barely suppressed smile, she casually remarked, "Engineer Wei seems to be in a good mood today."
"It's alright," Wei Hongsi said with a smile. "The work is going in the right direction, and it's progressing smoothly. Plus, I'm sleeping well at night, so my mood isn't too bad."
Lu Jiaqi's heart skipped a beat.
From what he said, the technical department's work has been quite effective, and they seem to be close to achieving their goal. This is undoubtedly good news.
Although Wei Hongsi is a newcomer, he was highly involved in this emergency response. Even General Manager Miao treated him with special regard, which shows that his words are still very valuable.
Moreover, judging from his previous work style, this newcomer is much more reliable than some of the veteran employees.
Thinking of this, Lu Jiaqi's mood brightened considerably: "Then I wish Engineer Wei a good mood every day."
Wei Hongsi nodded with a smile: "Likewise."
The white sedan moved intermittently through the traffic.
Seeing that Wei Hongsi didn't say much, Lu Jiaqi put on some music. About ten minutes later, she was surprised to find that Wei Hongsi had fallen asleep leaning back in his chair.
Did you sleep well last night?
She chuckled and shook her head, but didn't adjust the volume; she simply drove as smoothly as possible.
After another twenty minutes or so, we arrived at our destination.
After parking her car, Lu Jiaqi took out her makeup kit from her handbag to touch up her makeup, only to find that her dark circles were quite heavy and difficult to completely conceal.
Remembering what Wei Hongsi had said when they first set off, it suddenly occurred to me that he seemed to be consciously reassuring himself. If that were true, then this young man was indeed quite different from the other tech people in the company.
She put away the makeup box, turned off the car, and was about to wake Wei Hongsi when she saw that he woke up on his own after the car music turned off.
"Excuse me." Wei Hongsi opened his eyes and saw Lu Jiaqi looking at him. He smiled apologetically. "I'm not a big fan of music. I get sleepy as soon as I listen to songs."
"Oh? Then you're not..." Lu Jiaqi stopped talking, and seeing the puzzled look on Wei Hongsi's face, she smiled and said, "I have similar symptoms. When I was in school, I would feel sleepy during advanced mathematics class, no matter how much I slept the night before."
"This is the brain's adaptive energy-saving mechanism; the prefrontal cortex wants to go on strike," Wei Hongsi joked casually, glancing out the window. "Have we arrived?"
"Yes, let's get off the bus," Lu Jiaqi said with a smile. Having worked at Zhiwei for so long, she could understand the point, so it wasn't too much of a stretch.
